To this end, the games employ haptic technologies (omni Phantom), Kinect and immersive virtual reality (HTC-Vive). The games form part of the WeDraw project which builds upon neuroscientific evidence about the role of communication between sensory modalities during development, to support learning of arithmetic and geometrical concepts at primary school, through multisensory technologies. The design of the games is analysed in relation to the learning experiences of young children (ages 6-10) typically developing and visually impaired. The aim of the talk is to raise a discussion around the conceptualization of mathematical ideas through multisensory experiences mediated by digital technologies. https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15872 Mon, 10 Dec 2018 16:08:32 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15872 PPGH session on 14/12/17 by Andrew Harmer lecurecast recording https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15861 Fri, 07 Dec 2018 16:34:43 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15861 First 2 months in Russia Eleanor Job's 2nd Study Abroad vlog from Russia. https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15831 Wed, 05 Dec 2018 15:29:23 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15831 Poland Restored Session 4 Poland Restored Session 4 https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15812 Tue, 04 Dec 2018 10:17:08 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15812 Poland Restored Session 3 Poland Restored Session 3 https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15811 Tue, 04 Dec 2018 10:15:07 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15811 Poland Restored Session 2 Poland Restored Session 2 https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15810 Tue, 04 Dec 2018 10:12:30 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15810 Poland Restored Session 1 Poland Restored Session 1 https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15809 Tue, 04 Dec 2018 10:07:34 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15809 DCAL 2018 Xmas Newsletter Introduction and Research Prof. Mairéad MacSweeney, DCAL Centre Director, introduces this year newsletter and talks, together with Dr. Robert Adam, about the research we accomplished this year. Equalities & Inequalities in the English Education System Professor David Scott talks about social categories such as gender, race, dis-ability, intelligence, sexuality and class, as they are used in English education system. Knowledge of and about them and their effects is central to how we can understand society, equalities and inequalities within it, and educational relations. He will draw on events, happenings and experiences to develop a more coherent account with the potential to transform our understandings of these matters and hence our educational practices. David's lecture is drawn from his book 'Equalities & Inequalities in the English Education System, published by UCL IOE Press, 2018. https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15779 Wed, 28 Nov 2018 12:33:35 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15779 Environmental and Social Benefits of Intrabeam TARGIT IORT for Breast Cancer Environmental and social benefits of the targeted intraoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer: data from UK TARGIT-A trial centres and two UK NHS hospitals offering TARGIT IORT. Key messages Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is being increasingly used for breast cancer despite higher rates of local recurrence and no evidence of survival benefit, mainly because of the immediate and dramatic pathological responses seen with newer drugs The increased pathological response of the primary tumour in the breast does not translate into a survival benefit even when given in the adjuvant setting, challenging the paradigm of “window of opportunity” studies We must acknowledge that neoadjuvant chemotherapy may not be beneficial to breast cancer patients We should consider reducing the widespread use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15741 Fri, 23 Nov 2018 07:24:01 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15741 Cristie Ford - Innovation and State: Finance, Regulations and Justice Innovation and State: Finance, Regulations and Justice https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15717 Wed, 21 Nov 2018 14:32:02 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15717 TARGIT IORT treatment for breast cancer - Marcelle Bernstein, patients, expert panel, and audience at the Royal Society The Royal Society - Experts and patients discussing TARGIT IORT for breast cancer, 31 October 2018 http://www.targit.org.uk https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15699 Tue, 20 Nov 2018 16:56:09 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15699 TARGIT IORT for Breast Cancer treatment - Prof Frederik Wenz at a breast cancer event at the Royal Society The Royal Society - Experts and Patients discussing TARGIT IORT for Breast Cancer https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15686 Tue, 20 Nov 2018 10:58:34 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15686 TARGIT IORT for breast cancer treatment- Prof Jayant S Vaidya at a breast cancer event at the Royal Society Discussion about TARGIT IORT which is being used in treatment of breast cancer patients in over 350 centres in 35 countries, particularly its implementation in the UK More info at https://www.targit.org.uk Full Lancet paper https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(13)61950-9/abstract Full report at https://www.journalslibrary.nihr.ac.uk/programmes/hta/076049/ https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15678 Tue, 20 Nov 2018 09:47:27 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15678 Processor Group 37 ENG0002 Challenge 1 https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15656 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 22:09:13 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15656 Team26-Building your own computer Video for team 26 https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15650 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 18:54:41 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15650 UCL KL Seminars: Computing in primary school: Setting out for a systematic approach Computing in Years 1 to 4 is a big unknown, lacking a holistic process and systematic support for the pupils’ learning. Building on the UCL ScratchMaths project Professor Kalaš and colleagues have subsequently begun designing and developing a systematic teaching/learning process for the four lower primary years. Using a design research approach they have developed new programming tools (following the existing ScratchMaths 5E pedagogical framework) and also developed an adequate support for teachers. In this seminar Professor Kalaš presents their new initiative “Computing with Emil”, its broad intention, the result for Year 3, and powerful ideas of computing which pupils will have an opportunity to engage with, as well as some outcomes of the related design research in the area of the levels of control in primary educational programming. https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15649 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 17:56:14 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15649 BBSRC Q & A Final BBSRC Q & A Final https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15642 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 14:55:45 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15642 BBSRC Q & A James Donald BBSRC Q & A James Donald https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15641 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 14:50:31 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15641 BBSRC Dr Marco Davare BBSRC Dr Marco Davare https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15640 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 14:41:15 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15640 BBSRC intro Claire Westwood BBSRC intro Claire Westwood https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15638 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 14:29:45 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15638 BBSRC Workshop BBSRC Workshop https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15637 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 14:19:04 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15637 Should the Government modify Progress 8 to account for school intake differences in pupil background? - Dr George Leckie UCL Centre for Educational Evaluation and Accountability (www.educationalevaluation.net) Accountability and school differential effects Inspection systems consider how effective a school is in determined academic subjects, such as Maths and English. Yet, schools tend to be inconsistently effective when considering different outcomes, different cohorts over time, or when teaching specific groups of students (classified for example by ethnicity, previous attainment and SES). Some schools are particularly effective for promoting the progress of low-ability students, but not high-ability, or vice versa. Should accountability systems consider the strengths and weaknesses of each school or expect the same standards for all? Is it enough to say ‘this school is effective’ or should be added ‘when teaching this student group or subjects’? As school effectiveness seem to be a relative rather than an absolute matter, how could this be better reflected in accountability systems? https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15633 Mon, 19 Nov 2018 14:03:45 GMT https://mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/Play/15633 LTU: Accommodating the Distance Learner - Fully Online Panel discussion live stream recording from UCL IOE.
