Lunch Hour Lectures - Autumn 2009 - Episode 10: Seeing the invisible: Observing the dark side of the universe
Lunch Hour Lectures - Autumn 2009 - Episode 10: Seeing the invisible: Observing the dark side of the universe To celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the telescope and World Space Week. Dr Bridle will describe in pictures ‘gravitational lensing’, the bending of light by gravity, which is predicted by Einstein’s General Relativity. The mysterious dark components that constitute most of the universe do not emit or absorb light, but they do exert a gravitational attraction, and gravitational lensing is one of the most promising methods for finding out more about them. Dr Bridle will review the current observations and upcoming surveys. Dr Sarah Bridle Royal Society University Research Fellow Cosmology@UCL Vintage Podcasts - Lunch Hour Lectures

90 years of the UCL Observatory & the unveiling of the Perren Telescope
Initially established as a University of London facility the Observatory has been exclusively managed by University College London since 1951. It is a hands-on teaching observatory, part of the Astrophysics Group in UCL's Department of Physics and Astronomy. After 14 years of fund raising and a generous contribution in the previous decade from the Frederick Perren Fund, The Perren Telescope is now the Observatory's latest tool of astronomical exploration. https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ucl-observatory/
