The vision of Hell by Dante Alighieri. Translated by the Rev. Henry Francis Cary, and illustrated with the designs of M. Gustave Doré (London: Cassell and Company Limited, [no date]). Doré's illustrations for Dante's Divine Comedy have proved to be some of the most popular since they were first printed in the 19th century, as was Cary's English translation until recently. Dante Alighieri, Comento di chriſtophoro Landino fiorentino ſopra la comedia di Danthe alighieri poeta fiorentino (Venice: Petrus de Plasiis, Cremonensis, 1491). This was the first fully illustrated edition of Dante's Divine Comedy to be printed, and contains a woodcut illustration for each canto of Inferno, Paradiso and Purgatorio. This is the 5th edition of Dante's Divine Comedy to have been printed, and the first to be printed with a commentary (by Jacopo Della Lana, but attributed in the colophon to Benvenuto d'Imola).
