Object Handling Workshops in an Online Teaching Environment
In this case study, Jessica Clarke (History Department) discusses with Martin Compton from the Arena Centre a creative approach to reinventing an ‘object handling workshop’ during the period where all teaching was online. Using Zoom breakouts, Jessica found a way to support student learning and develop students’ abilities to critically appraise material culture and found that the necessary changes actually offered some unexpected advantages.

Mentimeter: from teaching online to student assessment (a case study from the Division of Psychiatry)
In this video, Dr. Ellie Pearce talks about how Mentimeter was used alongside Zoom breakout rooms to encourage participation and offer a shared focal point in live, online sessions as part of the response to campus closures in 2020-21. A student on one of the Psychiatry MSc programmes, Fiona Lin, then goes on to describe how she and her student colleagues responded to that use of Mentimeter and how they then began using it as part of an assessment activity called ‘Journal Club’.
