PGRs’ perceptions towards and use of Generative AI in doctoral research

Ross English & Becki Nash - University of Southampton Doctoral College joined us for AI April in the Faculty of Brain Sciences. Abstract: We surveyed 75 PGRs from across the UK to find out more about their understanding and use of Generative AI. In this presentation, we’ll outline our key findings, highlighting some nuanced perspectives on Generative AI use from PGRs, as well as posing questions for doctoral supervisors and others working with PGRs to consider. In particular, we ask: how can transparent conversations be had about Generative AI use in doctoral research, where the benefits and drawbacks may be constructively discussed?
