Reading research in Greek: What do we know and where to go next?
Reading research in Greek: What do we know and where to go next?
In this talk, Professor Timothy Papadopoulos from Cyprus University, will discuss results from reading research in the Greek transparent orthography and their implications for current models of reading development.
Abstract. The study of reading requires understanding of how concepts, constructs, and measurements fit together. This seminar will address these requirements, focusing on phonological awareness (PA) and rapid automatized naming (RAN).
It will offer a clear picture of the role of these and other cognitive skills in a transparent orthography (Greek). Emphasis will be placed on:
(a) longitudinal evaluation of PA and RAN
(b) the understanding of the RAN-reading relationship
(c) the need for using a novel microgenetic analysis framework for the study of learning stages during online reading intervention programs.
Theoretical and practical implications of these findings will also be discussed.
