UCL Special Collections: Dante - Divine Comedy illustrated by Doré (19th Century)
The vision of Hell by Dante Alighieri. Translated by the Rev. Henry Francis Cary, and illustrated with the designs of M. Gustave Doré (London: Cassell and Company Limited, [no date]). Doré's illustrations for Dante's Divine Comedy have proved to be some of the most popular since they were first printed in the 19th century, as was Cary's English translation until recently. UCL Special Collections hold over 3,000 rare editions, translations and illustrations of Dante's writings.
