MODULE: Education for Sustainable Development: Perspectives from Policy and Practice
This brief video introduction from Nicole Blum (Development Education Research Centre) gives an outline of the 'Education for Sustainable Development: Perspectives from Policy and Practice' module on the Global Learning MA. The module - which is offered both in-person and online - focuses on the evolution of policies and practices related to education for sustainable development (ESD) and their relationship to the discourses around global learning and global citizenship education. This is an educational area of increasing importance globally, particularly with the focus climate change and other environmental crises and debates about the relationship between humans and other living beings. The module will consider how educators can support learners in navigating their understanding and responses to these issues.

DERC Seminar Series: Dr Namrata Sharma - Integrating Buddhist / Soka Perspectives within the UNESCO-led Discourse and Practice of Global Citizenship Education
Reflecting on key outcomes from her long-term research and publications, Dr. Sharma shares the example of soka (lit. value-creation) as a concept and a rapidly growing movement of Buddhists who have endorsed several UN initiatives. Through her work Dr. Sharma argues the importance of paying attention to different philosophical understandings and values-based perspectives that can bring forth diverse and creative solutions to global issues. Doing this can also propel people and communities to take part in local, national, regional, and global solutions as engaged citizenry whose values inform their action for positive personal, social and environmental transformation. Dr. Namrata Sharma is an adjunct professor at the State University of New York and an academic advisor with AlphaPlus consultancy, UK.
