Soft Robotics – Hard Problems | Spring Into STEM
At UCL, we understand how science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are fundamental to the way we live our lives and shape so many of the things that we see and do every day. Dr Helge Wurdemann explores how haptics (technology that stimulates the senses of touch and motion), and soft robotics can help ensure safe human-robot interaction. #SpringIntoSTEM #UCLEngineering #MechanicalEngineering #Haptics #Robotics Find out more about us - search 'UCL Engineering', or visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/engineering/

UCL KL Seminars: Game design and learning experiences
This seminar focuses on the design of three serious games which support mathematical learning (angles, shapes, symmetry, rotation, 2D to 3D transformations) through movement, tactile and auditory sensory experiences. To this end, the games employ haptic technologies (omni Phantom), Kinect and immersive virtual reality (HTC-Vive). The games form part of the WeDraw project which builds upon neuroscientific evidence about the role of communication between sensory modalities during development, to support learning of arithmetic and geometrical concepts at primary school, through multisensory technologies. The design of the games is analysed in relation to the learning experiences of young children (ages 6-10) typically developing and visually impaired. The aim of the talk is to raise a discussion around the conceptualization of mathematical ideas through multisensory experiences mediated by digital technologies.
