DERC Seminar Series: Challenging the Theory-Practice Divide in the Context of Development Education Centres in England
Speaker: Dr Andrea Bullivant.
Literature on Development Education and Global Learning (DEGL) has questioned the extent to which practice is informed by theory. At the same time, there has been very little research on conceptualisations of DEGL and the theory-practice relationship from the perspectives of practitioners.
This seminar shares findings from research exploring DEGL and the theory-practice relationship in the context of Development Education Centres in England. It shows how insights from literature on embodied and knowing practice challenge assumptions about a theory-practice divide and can support DECs to realise their potential as a community of practice in the face of more dominant agendas and challenges.
Speaker: Dr Andrea Bullivant is a practitioner based with a Development Education Centre. Her work focuses on DEGL in higher education, through training new teachers and bringing research and practice together through co-ordinating networks such as TEESNet.
